Principal's Message

Dr. April L. Lowe earned her Ed.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. Her degree is in Educational Policy Organization and Leadership with an emphasis on diversity and equity. Dr. Lowe’s dissertation focuses on helping principals advance racial equity in schools during the pandemic.

This year marks her 26th year in education. As an educator, she is driven by the individual success and growth of every scholar. Dr. Lowe has devoted her career to educating, inspiring, and advocating for scholars, both as a classroom teacher and as a principal. At the heart of her practice is building strong relationships with the community she serves.

As principal at Deanna G. Taylor Academy, she has worked with her staff to pilot iBlocks which is a project-based learning program built to foster critical thinking, spark creativity, and give students the opportunity to practice 21st-century skills incorporating STEM.

Under Dr. Lowe’s leadership, the scholars at DGTA also participate in hydroponic farming which allows scholars to plant and grow high-quality nutritious produce.

Dr. Lowe is always looking for ways to improve instruction. This past school year she introduced The Teaching Channel to the district. Thanks to the support of Superintendent Glover the teachers and administrators have access to real-world demonstrations of effective pedagogical practices.
